Take the word “they” for example, which has always referred to more than one person. Now it can be used a a gender-neutral, singular pronoun. An interesting thing to note, it has actually been used that way for many years already. It wasn’t until the 17oo’s when it was deemed incorrect and the pronoun “he” should be used as the gender-neutral description.
